Detail Of Services: The Garnet A. Williams Community Centre is located at 501 Clark Avenue West in Thornhill, Vaughan. There is one main entrance into the building with an exterior ramp and large canopy. The facility contains an indoor arena (with seating capacity for approx. 400 patrons), a leisure pool, fitness centre, gymnasium, community / activity rooms, squash and racquetball courts and associated administrative and support spaces for City Recreation Services and Facility Services staff. The west side of the building includes a tenant space with a separate exterior entrance and no interior connection to the main community centre building. The façade is primarily brick masonry veneer with wood exterior panelling. It has a parking capacity at grade of approximately 340 spaces. GAWCC was expanded in 2005 to include a new seniors activity room and fitness centre. Other than ongoing maintenance and repair work, the facility has not been significantly altered since the expansion in 2005. (b) Size: The GAWCC is approximately 11,612 sq.m (125,000 square foot). (c) Project Description: The following is a high-level description of the renovation which will include, but is not limited to, the following: • New Main Community Centre glazed entrance addition and new clerestorey glazing along north façade at General Purpose Room; • Creation of new main entrance lobby with open concept lobby design (including new universal washroom and barrier-free public washrooms) to improve accessibility and to be renovated to current Ontario Building Code and AODA standards; • New Arena Entrance addition including new public elevator. The new entrance provides direct access to the arena ice level from the new arena entrance lobby; • Replace existing skylight with new clerestorey in main public circulation space; • Relocation of staff offices and staff support spaces; • New-south corridor connecting the community centre to the sun deck and pool patio; • Exterior sun deck and pool patio updates with a new accessibility ramp and canopy; • Updating the interior ramp to meet current building code requirements; • Meeting / Activity Room updates (including operable partition walls), Children’s Activity Room updates; • Pool change room renovations including the addition of new family change room, fitness change room updates, new pool staff change rooms at pool deck level; • Pool deck updates of finishes, and new acoustic treatments; • Removal of existing pool solarium and replacement with on-deck pool seating; • Arena updates at upper level; • Exterior hard and soft landscaping; • Exterior site work, site servicing and regrading • Selective replacement of exterior cladding; • New exterior cladding at new additions; • New exterior signage at main street location; • New interior wayfinding and signage; • Overall interior lighting upgrades (i.e. LED); • Exterior lighting updates where applicable; • Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, information technology (IT), hardware and life safety upgrades reaching end-of-life and to suit renovation; • Building automation system upgrades; • General building code updates where applicable (i.e. hardware, handrails, stair finishes, fire alarm, exit signage, etc.); • Coordination with the City’s Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) vendors for final installation; • Ensuring that renovation work occurs without disrupting external tenant group located to the west of the community centre.
