Ottawa developer Claridge Homes will replace a planned hotel at the site of former supermarket on Rideau Street with additional apartments at its three-tower mixed-use project.

The builder plans to construct three towers of 18, 26 and 27 storeys above a two storey podium with ground floor retail, expected to include a 35,000 sq. ft. replacement Metro store at 245 Rideau Street.

In the earlier plan submitted to Ottawa’s planning department, the 18-storey highrise would have been a 208-unit hotel, Ottawa Business Journal reports. Under the most recent site plan revision, the hotel would be replaced by a second apartment building units. The tallest building will also be rental apartments, while the 26-storey structure would be developed as condominiums.

The project has been in the planning stages since at least 2013, according to city planning department files.
