Durham Region to host public information centre Tuesday on Ajax Water Supply Plant expansion

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The Region of Durham will hold a Public Information Centre (PIC) tomorrow (March 24) to discuss plans to expand the Ajax Water Supply Plant (WSP), a key project to support projected population growth in the Town of Ajax through 2051.

The expansion will increase the plant’s capacity to meet rising water demand for Ajax and Pickering residents and businesses. As part of a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Addendum, the Region is evaluating alternatives for renovating and expanding the existing facility while minimizing environmental and community impacts.

The PIC will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ajax Public Library, Rotary Room (55 Harwood Ave. S.), with a presentation from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Attendees can review project materials, ask questions, and provide input on the expansion plans.

The project supports Durham Region’s commitment to reliable, high-quality drinking water across the Ajax/Pickering and Whitby/Oshawa/Courtice Water Supply Systems.

Construction of the expanded WSP is expected to accommodate both current and long-term water supply needs, ensuring the infrastructure keeps pace with growth in the region.
