Electra Battery Materials Corporation has awarded $7.8 million in construction contracts tied to key infrastructure at its cobalt sulfate refinery.
The largest contract, valued at about $6.8 million, was awarded to Pro Pipe Construction Ltd. for structural, mechanical and piping work associated with the refinery’s crystallizer circuit. The scope includes fabrication and installation of piping systems and mechanical equipment used to move and process cobalt-bearing solutions through the crystallization stage.
A second contract worth roughly $1 million has been awarded to WB Melback Corporation for construction of the refinery’s silo building. The work covers structural and civil components tied to dry product storage, handling and final packaging infrastructure.
“We are awarding defined scopes to experienced contractors and building out the refinery in a disciplined sequence,” said Paolo Toscano, vice-president of projects and engineering. “This approach maintains tight control over cost, schedule, and execution as the project advances.”
The company said the contracts establish clearly defined scopes across key process areas, helping bring additional portions of the refinery into the construction phase.
