Infrastructure Ontario and Oak Valley Health say five companies have prequalified to bid on the Oak Valley-Uxbridge redevelopment project that will see a new hospital built on existing land, as well as a long-term care home and an ambulatory care building.
The five companies prequalified based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in December, Infrastructure Ontario said in a statement on June 19.
Selection criteria included the construction experience and financial capacity to develop a project of this size and complexity. The prequalified companies are:
- EBC Inc.
- EllisDon Corporation
- Maystar General Contractors Inc.
- Multiplex Construction Canada Limited
- Pomerleau Inc.
The companies will now begin preparing proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Once submissions are received, Infrastructure Ontario and Oak Valley Health will evaluate the proposals, select a company, and negotiate a final contract.
The successful company is to be announced in spring 2027. A fairness monitor is overseeing the procurement process.
Oak Valley Health, alongside the provincial government, is expanding and building a modernized hospital in Uxbridge in south central Ontario that will add 11 new beds, bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 31. The project it will also expand services such as ambulatory care and diagnostic imaging, pharmacy and laboratory.
Uxbridge Hospital is currently a 20-bed community hospital offering diagnostic and emergency services. Plans also call for a 192-bed long-term care home co-located on the site.
Main construction is to begin next year with completion expected by early 2029.
The province and local health groups have committed funding to early planning work including $8.9 million from Ontario to prepare the site for the new 140,000 sq. ft. facility.
As part of the new redevelopment, the hospital’s clinical areas will include:
- Ambulatory services
- Emergency services
- Inpatient services
- Diagnostic Imaging and cardiorespiratory services
- Inpatient laboratory
- Inpatient pharmacy
- Administrative services
- Support services
Originally opened in 1959, Uxbridge Hospital is currently a 20-bed community hospital offering diagnostic and emergency services to people living in the community.
The redevelopment is being delivered using a Design-Bid-Build (DBB) model. Key features of a DBB model include increased owner control over the project design, as well as a high level of flexibility to respond to changing conditions and concerns.
