Gillam marked the holiday season by supporting families and seniors in need across several Ontario communities, including Toronto, Barrie and Waterloo Region.
The construction company sponsored two families and a senior through Community Centre 55’s Share a Christmas Program in Toronto’s Beaches–East York area. The non-profit connects sponsors with families to create personalized wish lists that include food, winter clothing, toys, and health and hygiene items.
As part of the initiative, Gillam provided Christmas hampers with essential items, fulfilled wish-list requests for parents and children, and supplied grocery gift cards to help ensure families had food during the holidays. Gillam employees delivered the hampers directly to the sponsored families shortly before Christmas.
The company also held its annual, company-wide toy, food and clothing drive, with donations collected from team members, construction sites and trade partners. Through partnerships with local charities, the drive supported families in the communities where Gillam projects are located.
At its Grove Street project in Barrie, Gillam donated 290 pounds of food to the Barrie Food Bank. Additional donations were made to organizations including the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
Gillam said the donations were aimed at supporting families facing financial hardship during the holiday season, a period that can be especially challenging for many households.
The company said community giving extends beyond the holidays. Over the past year, Gillam has contributed funds, volunteer time and resources to more than 35 charitable organizations and food banks across Canada.
