Helmets to Hardhats Canada reports that three Ontario military veterans were placed with construction career opportunities last month, including a carpenter apprentice with local 2309 and 27 as well as an electrical apprentice with Forefront Electric Company.

Also, another 30 veterans were referred to various points of contacts across the country. A referral is when a veteran has yet to be released or is not currently available to start but is establishing contact with the trade of interest or an employer for a future date.

“H2H would like to thank the employer community for posting management opportunities on the website. Since employer postings started to come during this past month we have had 3 veterans apply to the various opportunities,” said Joe Maloney, founder and national executive director.

“As we move into spring and we continue to keep ahead of this pandemic we see great opportunities for veterans, active reservists and senior cadets to join the construction industry through your organizations.”

There are currently 286 veterans ready, willing and eager to get to work, so “please consider them when doing apprenticeship intakes and direct hires,” he said. “For what these brave men and woman do for us offering them more opportunities when they come home is only the right thing to do.”

In February, the program had 27 new registrants and five newly approved employers – Black & McDonald Ltd., QM Environmental, Rocky Mountain Ram, Kel-Gor Ltd., and Canadian Base Operators.
