The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has extended the closure of Anne Street North, between Edgehill Drive and Donald Street in Barrie, until the end of 2022.
The bridge over Highway 400 was demolished in late spring 2021 and work to replace the structure was expected to take about 18 months to complete. The MTO project includes construction on Hwy. 400 between Dunlop and St. Vincent streets.
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has contracted McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers (McIntosh Perry) to complete the detailed design and class environmental assessment study for the replacement of three bridges on Highway 400 across Barrie – Dunlop Street, Anne Street and Sunnidale Road.
The new bridges are needed to accommodate the future widening of Highway 400 through Barrie. Also included in the project is the reconstruction of the Dunlop Street and Highway 400 interchange, Highway 400 pavement resurfacing from Dunlop Street to north of St. Vincent Street, Bayfield Street ramp resurfacing, Highway 400 median barrier replacement, drainage improvements within the resurfacing limits, design of noise walls in the vicinity of Dunlop, Anne and Duckworth and provision for Highway 400Â future full illumination.

The preliminary design of the bridge replacement options were previously approved as part of a 2017 Environmental Assessment.
The current scope of work includes:
- Replacing the existing Anne Street Underpass at Highway 400;
- Lengthening the Anne Street Underpass to accommodate future widening of Highway 400 to 10 lanes;
- Widening Anne Street to accommodate future active transportation installed by others;
- Rehabilitating the pavement structure of Highway 400 from north of Dunlop Street to north of Sunnidale Road, and from north of Bayfield Street to north of St. Vincent Street;
- Installing noise walls at three (3) approved locations;
- Rehabilitating/replacing/extending four (4) culverts to accommodate Highway 400 widening, and
- Replacing median storm sewer and median barrier within Highway 400 reconstruction/resurfacing limits.
