NHBA recognizes Member of the Year and Company of the Year

The Niagara Home Builders Association (NHBA) recognized its Member of the Year and Company of the Year at the association’s annual Christmas celebration event on Tuesday.

David Samis, president of Phelps Homes and NHBA vice-president took home this year’s “Member of the Year” Award.

In his address to the audience of more than 300 guests, NHBA executive officer Chuck McShane said that Samis was selected due to his broad understanding of the NHBA’s platform and his continued commitment to the growth and development of the association as a whole.

cotton inc awardCotton Inc. received the “Nick Basciano Company of the Year” Award.

The NHBA says in its award citation that Cotton Inc. has been a pillar of the Niagara community for more than 40 years. The company was selected based on its “commitment to safety in the workplace,” as well as its continued dedication and support of the association.

The company also enriches and supports a variety of charities and organizations throughout the Niagara Region, with more than $70,000 donated in 2019 alone.

Recognition Award from the NHBA for her pivotal role in a charity based partnership project.

Mark Buckshon founded the precursor business behind Ontario Construction News in 1989. Earlier, he worked as a journalist and sub-editor, including a stint on the Bulawayo Chronicle in 1979-80, during the transition from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe.  He has lived in Ottawa since 1981. While most publishers achieve their role through a sales/business development career, Mark developed his business skills after succeeding as a journalist, and he continues to enjoy actively writing, editing and contributing to the publication.
