The Town of Oakville is inviting industry stakeholders to an open house on June 5 to review key planning tools that will shape the future of development in Midtown Oakville.
The session will focus on the draft Community Planning Permit (CPP) bylaw and the Urban Design Guidelines being developed to support new Official Plan policies for the area. Both initiatives are part of the town’s strategy to guide growth and redevelopment in Midtown, which is Oakville’s primary strategic growth area.
The open house takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the South Atrium at Oakville Town Hall.
Located south of the QEW/Highway 403 between Sixteen Mile Creek and Chartwell Road, Midtown Oakville is being planned as a mixed-use, transit-oriented community. It includes the Oakville GO and VIA train stations and connections to local and regional transit.
The draft CPP bylaw is intended to simplify the development approval process by consolidating zoning, site plan and minor variance approvals into a single application stream. Once in effect, it would reduce administrative complexity and speed up development timelines.
The Urban Design Guidelines will support consistent design outcomes and help ensure new development aligns with the town’s vision for a livable, high-density urban district.
Panel boards outlining the key elements of both documents will be on display during the event. Town staff will be on hand to answer questions and collect feedback from industry professionals and members of the public.
Those unable to attend can provide input through an online questionnaire that will be available until June 12.
The policy framework follows the adoption of new planning policies for Midtown Oakville in February. Those policies have been submitted to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for approval.
