The Ontario government is moving ahead with the eastern section of Highway 413 and the Highway 427 extension, while also naming a construction manager for the Highway 410 extension.

The announcement was made by Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria in Caledon, where representatives of the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO) gathered to mark the latest steps in the delivery of the highway project.

The Highway 410 extension construction management team is a joint venture of Miller Paving, GIP and Amico.

The latest developments build on construction work already underway on Highway 413, a planned east-west highway intended to provide additional transportation capacity in one of the Greater Toronto Area’s fastest-growing regions.

413 MapNadia Todorova, executive director of the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO) said in a statement the organization has supported Highway 413 since it was first proposed.

“Highway 413 is a critical, generational investment in the GTA’s transportation network, providing much-needed capacity and connectivity to support continued growth across the region,” Todorova said. “RCCAO has been a consistent supporter since the highway was first proposed, and we commend the Government of Ontario for its continued advancement of this important project, including work on the eastern section and the Highway 410 and 427 extensions.”

RCCAO said its research estimates construction of Highway 413 will create about 8,000 jobs and generate $2.3 billion in earnings for Ontario workers, including up to 600 new apprenticeships.

The group also cited its 2024 research that estimated traffic congestion costs the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area economy $44.7 billion annually.

RCCAO said the additional transportation infrastructure is needed as communities across the region continue to grow.

The organization said it will continue to advocate for Highway 413 and other infrastructure projects it says are needed to improve transportation capacity and support economic growth.
