The Ontario government has announced a nearly $16 million investment to carry out essential upgrades and repairs at Brantford General Hospital.
“Our government is committed to making record investments in Ontario’s hospitals, ensuring that residents can access world-class care when and where they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, deputy premier and Minister of Health. “This funding will help Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) address critical infrastructure needs, allowing patients and their families to continue receiving vital services in their community.”
To assist with repairs to the hospital’s damaged utility services tunnel, the Ontario government is providing more than $9 million in one-time funding to reroute essential utility services. Additionally, $6.3 million will be allocated to replace and upgrade three malfunctioning boilers.
This funding is on top of the $7.3 million previously granted for the boiler replacement project, as part of Ontario’s $229 million investment this year in infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and repairs across 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities in the province.
“When our community unites, remarkable things happen,” said Will Bouma, MPP for Brantford-Brant. “These infrastructure improvements are crucial for maintaining uninterrupted, high-quality health care for our region. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Brantford General Hospital to enhance access to connected and convenient care for years to come.”
Bonnie Camm, president and CEO of BCHS, expressed gratitude for the much-needed funding: “We appreciate the Provincial Government’s support for Brantford General Hospital’s urgent infrastructure needs. These funds will enable us to make necessary repairs and continue providing exceptional services to our community.”
