The Ontario government last week announced a $1.6 billion investment to support 79 school construction and renewal projects across the province, aimed at easing student space pressures and expanding access to child care in growing communities.
Funding includes 67 projects approved under the 2025–26 capital priorities program ($1.3 billion) and 12 projects under the 2026–27 program (nearly $300 million). It also includes $87 million dedicated to child care capital funding. In total, the projects will create more than 29,000 new student spaces and over 1,900 licensed child care spaces.
The projects range from new schools to major additions, replacements, and retrofits.
In May the province announced $15.8 million for a new replacement Thessalon Public School in Northern Ontario and $5 million for an expansion at Montague Public School in the area served by the Upper Canada District School Board.
