The Ontario government is providing an additional $8.9 million to support the redevelopment and expansion of Oak Valley Health’s Uxbridge Hospital, marking a key step in the transformation of health-care services in the region.

“We have shovels in the ground,” Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy wrote on X. “It was a great day to announce the Uxbridge Hospital Early Works groundbreaking.

“Because of the tireless efforts of so many in the #Uxbridge community, we are one step closer to the new campus of care.”

uxbridge hospitalFunding will allow early construction workto begin on the site, including development of a portion of the north service road, construction of a retaining wall, and land regrading. These preparations are part of a broader plan to create a modern health-care campus featuring a new hospital, an ambulatory care centre, and a 192-bed long-term care home, all co-located on the same grounds.

“Our government is making historic commitments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring people of all ages can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, minister of health. “This support for early works construction at Oak Valley Health – Uxbridge is an important milestone in the hospital’s redevelopment.”

The expanded site will become a fully integrated health campus, combining hospital, long-term care, ambulatory, and primary care services to meet the needs of Uxbridge’s growing population.

“This redevelopment reflects Oak Valley Health’s vision of integrated care—bringing together a new hospital, post-acute care, long-term care, ambulatory services and primary care in a more connected way to support every stage of a patient’s health journey,” said Mark Fam, president and CEO of Oak Valley Health.

Planned upgrades include:

  • An increase of up to 11 new beds, bringing the hospital’s total to 31
  • Expanded services in diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory care, laboratory, and pharmacy
  • Improved access to emergency, inpatient and ambulatory care

“This additional $8.9 million marks an important step forward in the Uxbridge Hospital and Long-Term Care Home project,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP for Pickering—Uxbridge. “It brings us closer to a modern, expanded hospital that will deliver high-quality care right here in our community.”
