WINDSOR – The Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario has reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with Bruce Power, site contractors and local communities to support Ontario’s nuclear sector as a stable source of clean, reliable and affordable electricity.

Delegates at the council’s 67th annual convention in Windsor passed a resolution recognizing nuclear power as an essential part of the province’s energy mix, helping create jobs and grow the economy while advancing clean energy goals.

The resolution specifically supports Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project, noting that council members contribute specialized skills to ensure refurbishments of Units 3 to 8 are completed safely, on schedule, and to high-quality standards.

“Our members take great pride in the work they are doing at Bruce Power with the specialized skills and knowledge they bring to the refurbishments of Units 3 to 8,” said Marc Arsenault, business manager and secretary-treasurer of the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario.

The resolution also highlights the role of Bruce Power’s MCR work in helping Canada achieve its net-zero goals, while supporting the Bruce “C” Impact Assessment process and the federal investment tax credits that promote domestic nuclear investments.

James Scongack, Bruce Power’s chief operating officer and executive vice-president, told delegates the partnership is helping drive Ontario’s economy and meet future electrification needs.

“The work that we are doing every day at the Bruce Power site, along with our great partners from the Building Trades, is helping to drive Ontario’s economy and supporting future electrification needs,” Scongack said. “I would like to thank the Building Trades for their ongoing support and for the vital role that their members play in the life extension of the Bruce Power site.”
