WASAGA BEACH – The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board has been cleared by the provincial government to issue a tender for construction of the first high school and community hub in Wasaga Beach.

The project will receive $62.2 million from the province and $2.7 million from the Town of Wasaga Beach and the new building will provide 1,008 student spaces and 49 licensed child-care spaces. Plans also include shared amenities, including a 300-seat theatre and a track-and-field facility.

Mayor Brian Smith said approval to issue the tender marks a significant step forward for the town.

Wasaga Beach, the school board and province have worked together to advance the project – the town’s first secondary school – and create a community hub that will include modern learning and recreation spaces, licensed child care, post-secondary opportunities and a theatre for community use.

A construction schedule has not yet been released.
