OPP have recovered stolen construction equipment worth over $600,000 and charged a Kingston man with possession of stolen property.
According to Lennox and Addington OPP, officers responded to a report of a recovered stolen vehicle in Newburgh on Jan. 2.
As a result, the OPP Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a commercial property on County Road 4, Camden East, in Stone Mills Township and seized construction equipment from various commercial businesses. The investigation into the stolen construction equipment began in October 2019, police said at a press conference.
Recovered items include three side-by-sides, three ATVs, two backhoes, a bobcat and four trailers, as well as a collection of stolen tools. Serial numbers were removed from vehicles, and decals with the words “Devious Deals,” were added, police said.
One of the backhoes has been returned to a local construction company and police are working to determine who owns the remaining equipment which was stolen from several different locations including Hastings and the Kingston area.
A 32-year-old Kingston man faces six charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime — VIN number obliterated. He was held in custody and attended a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Jan. 6.
OPP Community Street Crime unit will continue investigating with help from the OPP Regional Support Team (RST) Auto theft unit.
