More than $28 million in combined federal and provincial funding has been announced to support four affordable housing projects in Peel Region, delivering 599 new units across Mississauga and Brampton.
The announcement was made at Credit River Way in Mississauga.
“The Government of Canada is committed to helping communities develop local solutions to address the housing crisis,” said Gregor Robertson, federal minister of infrastructure. “The projects announced today will provide more safe, affordable homes for the residents of Peel Region.
“I’m proud of our government’s involvement and of the tangible difference it will make for people in this community.”
Credit River Way, at 200 Missinnihe Way in Mississauga, is a seven-storey, 150-unit rental building completed in October 2024. The development includes one-, two- and three-bedroom units and is intended to support low- and moderate-income residents with mobility needs. It was built on former Imperial Oil lands in Port Credit as part of a broader waterfront redevelopment focused on sustainability and public access. The project received more than $12.4 million through OPHI, along with a previously announced $24 million investment through the Affordable Housing Fund.
Creekside Apartments, at 1639 Lakeshore Road West in Mississauga, will add 51 affordable units for people experiencing housing insecurity, including women, BIPOC individuals and residents living with mental health, addiction or physical and developmental disabilities. The transit-oriented project includes wellness-focused amenities and is located near schools, parks and social services. It is receiving $1.8 million through COCHI and nearly $19.7 million through the Rapid Housing Initiative. Completion is expected between late 2026 and early 2027.
In Brampton, Chelsea Gardens at 6 Knightsbridge will be a 20-storey, 200-unit affordable housing tower scheduled for completion in 2027. The building will include a library, meeting room, kitchen and administrative spaces, and is located near transit and retail services. The project received more than $7.2 million through OPHI, following a $42.5 million federal commitment through the Affordable Housing Fund.
Basswood Senior Residences, also in Brampton at 527 Main Street North, will provide 198 affordable rental units for seniors as part of Peel Region’s Campus of Care model. More than one-third of units will be fully wheelchair barrier-free, with accessible features designed to support aging in place. The project received more than $6.9 million through OPHI, following a $37 million federal investment through the Affordable Housing Fund.
Together, the four projects are intended to expand affordable housing supply across Peel Region while supporting seniors, vulnerable residents and households facing affordability pressures.
