Despite the dramatic impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry, some new hotel projects are proceeding in Ontario, including an 119-room Avid Hotel in Vaughan.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) issued a news release on Oct. 13 based on an Oct. 2 groundbreaking event, saying the new hotel – the first of its brand-type in Canada – is owned by PI Cap, with corporate offices at 7003 Steeles Ave. in Toronto.

The new hotel is expected to open in spring, 2022. Track One Construction Management based in Mississauga says it is the project’s construction manager. The news release issued by IHG did not outline the hotel’s construction cost, nor provide its exact location.
