The City of Barrie is looking for feedback on the future of its central waterfront, launching public consultations on proposed designs for a new Centennial Park Food and Activity Hub.
The initiative, announced April 10, is expected to enhance public access, support local food culture and create new opportunities for community gathering at Centennial Park. The project stems from recommendations outlined in the city’s 2023 Waterfront Strategic Plan.
“Centennial Park is a cherished community location,” said Michelle Banfield, executive director of development services. “Creating a new vision for this space as a food and activity hub will enhance the waterfront experience with high-quality public design and year-round programming.”
City staff have developed two preliminary design concepts for the proposed hub, each offering a different approach to organizing park space around three core waterfront experiences: dance, dine and play. The concepts are intended to create a lively, accessible destination that supports both everyday use and larger events.
Officials say community input will play a key role in determining the preferred design. Residents are encouraged to review the proposals and complete an online survey, open until May 1, for a chance to win a prize.
The designs and survey are available through the city’s engagement platform at BuildingBarrie.ca/CentennialParkHub.
