The Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association (SCHBA) will host an industry lunch March 26 featuring Emily O’Brien, founder of Comeback Snacks, a specialty popcorn company. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
O’Brien, who launched the company after serving a federal prison sentence, combines bold popcorn flavours with a mission to challenge the stigma faced by people with criminal records. Comeback Snacks, formerly known as Cons and Kernels, is now sold in more than 1,200 locations across Canada and the United States.
The entrepreneur has received multiple awards for her leadership and social impact, including the 2020 YWCA Hamilton Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship Award, the Women’s Empowerment Awards’ Entrepreneur of the Year, the 2022 Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award for Community Service, and the 2025 Sobeys Diversity Award. She was also named one of the Top 50 Global Women in Sustainability in 2025.
O’Brien frequently speaks to media outlets including CBC, CTV, Global, Toronto Star, iHeartRadio, CHCH and VICE. She also advocates for reintegration programs that provide education, training and employment opportunities for people with prior convictions.
The lunch will provide attendees with insights on entrepreneurship, social impact, and leadership. Tickets and registration are available through the association.
