The City of Guelph has awarded Phase 1 of the Wyndham Street Reconstruction project to Steed and Evans Ltd. for $24 million. The project will upgrade underground infrastructure and support downtown growth.
A tender was issued to a list of pre-qualified contractors.
Steed and Evans Ltd. submitted the lowest compliant bid, keeping the project on budget. The company has a track record of completing major city projects, including Baker Street reconstruction, College Avenue infrastructure upgrades phase 1, Silvercreek Parkway reconstruction phase 1, and Metcalfe Street reconstruction phase 2.
The city is hosting a Construction Information Fair on March 25 at Guelph City Hall, offering a chance to meet project staff and learn about upcoming work.
“This phase is one of the most complicated of our Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program,” said Terry Gayman. “It’s a key step in providing housing-enabling infrastructure and creating a vibrant downtown.”
Construction is scheduled to begin March 30, with Wyndham Street closures from Wellington Street East to south of Macdonell Street. The closure may extend to Cork Street depending on Alectra’s utility relocation schedule. Wyndham Street closures to Quebec Street are expected in late April or early May. Macdonell Street will remain open except for a four-week period during the summer.
Prior to city construction, Alectra Utilities, Rogers Communications and Enbridge Gas will replace their infrastructure along Wyndham Street.
