Toronto Pearson International Airport has awarded a $1.5-billion contract for the next phase of its terminal renewal program to NORR-DIALOG and PCL Construction.
The joint venture between Ontario-incorporated firms NORR and DIALOG will lead planning, architecture, engineering and integrated design for the Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 Revitalization Program. PCL Construction will serve as construction manager at risk.
Work will be completed in phases to allow the airport to continue operating while construction is underway.
The project is part of Pearson LIFT, a long-term plan to modernize the airport’s infrastructure. The announcement follows the launch of a separate $3-billion investment in airside and baggage systems earlier this year.
The terminal program will focus on upgrades to aging infrastructure, including expanded terminal areas, updated check-in and passenger processing spaces, improved baggage systems, enhanced security screening and upgrades to customs and immigration facilities.
Other planned improvements include refreshed lounges and additional charging stations throughout the terminals.
“Toronto Pearson is one of Canada’s most important transportation hubs,” said Jim Anderson, partner at DIALOG. “Much of this work will happen behind the scenes, but it will improve how passengers move through the airport.”
Construction will be carried out in stages to ensure airport operations and minimizing impacts on passengers and airline partners.
