The Ontario government is providing more than $7.7 million to build a new aquatic centre in Uxbridge, replacing North Durham’s only indoor pool with a modern, multi-purpose facility. The project is part of the province’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF).

The centre will feature an eight-lane, 25-metre pool for swimming and fitness, a 10-by-15-metre therapy and teaching pool, and a multi-sport space designed for basketball, pickleball, and fitness programming. Officials say it will serve as a year-round hub for sport, wellness, and community activities, supporting swimming lessons, rehabilitation therapy, competitive training, recreational leagues, and programs for families, seniors, and youth.

uxbridge“Our government is proud to support communities like Uxbridge by investing in infrastructure that delivers better services for people, while creating more opportunities for people to stay active,” said Neil Lumsden, Ontario’s Minister of Sport. “The new aquatic centre will provide safe, accessible and modern recreational spaces that will serve residents for years to come. Investments like this will protect local jobs, strengthen communities and build a more resilient economy.”

Construction timelines and contractor details have not yet been announced.
