Vaughan council has approved a master plan that will guide the future of the historic MacMillan Farm property, outlining a long-term vision that combines heritage preservation with new recreational, cultural and environmental opportunities.
The plan, approved in June, covers the city-owned property at 9605 Dufferin St., which includes heritage barns and homes, open fields, forests, a nature reserve, informal trails and a creek.
According to city officials, the master plan is intended to protect the site’s agricultural and natural heritage while creating new public amenities as Vaughan continues to grow.
The document sets out six guiding pillars: nature-based destination, agricultural legacy, climate resiliency, model of innovation, Indigenous placekeeping and stewardship. It also outlines a phased approach to future development.

“MacMillan Farm is a truly unique and valued part of Vaughan’s history,” Mayor Steven Del Duca said in a statement. “This master plan sets out a thoughtful approach to growth that respects the heritage while creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to gather, explore and connect.”
The plan will preserve the site’s character while supporting innovation, sustainability and public access. It also establishes a framework for future improvements to the property, with development expected to occur in phases. No timeline or budget for implementation has been announced.
