The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) remains at the forefront of growth as the city’s downtown core continues to evolve.
More than a decade into its development, the VMC is now a hub for community event space, new developments and key city-building projects. As more amenities open and opportunities for residents to live, work, play and connect expand, the VMC is becoming the destination of the future.
The overall plan is a complete, mixed-use community that is both transit-supportive and pedestrian-friendly including the VMC as a thriving financial, innovation and cultural centre with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable design practices.
The VMC’s growth is guided by the VMC Sub-Committee, which meets monthly to oversee progress and ensure that the vision for the area is being brought to life. During the February committee meeting, several key items were discussed, including the VMC Transportation Master Plan and updates to the VMC Secondary Plan.
VMC Transportation Master Plan
A new plan is being created for the VMC to manage transportation needs in the downtown core through to 2051, focused on improving street connectivity and accessibility, as well as promoting various transportation options.
Two rounds of public engagement have already been held, with the most recent round concluding in January 2025. Feedback from these consultations was shared with the sub committee during the February meeting and a final report on the plan is expected to be presented to council for approval in June 2025.
VMC Secondary Plan – Phase 4 Update
Currently in its final stages of development, the secondary plan will be presented to Vaughan council this spring. The VMC Secondary Plan is an essential step in guiding the long-term growth and development of the area, ensuring it remains a vibrant and sustainable community.
