The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka broke ground on its new facility in Barrie on 535 Bayview Dr., with construction set to begin this spring. The new YMCA will span more than 70,000 sq. ft., offering a variety of programming, including fitness, aquatics, and community services.
The milestone was celebrated by over 150 community members, donors, supporters, and partners.
The project team includes Martin Simmons Sweers Architects, Tatham Engineering, and MHBC Planning Ltd.
The new site will feature a wide range of amenities, including an aquatic centre, health and fitness services, a cardiac rehabilitation program in partnership with Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, an indoor accessible playground, and specialized programs for children, youth, and seniors. The Y’s new location will also include a multicultural space in collaboration with the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership, offering resources to support the area’s growing and diverse population.
“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration, and together with our supporters, we believe we can offer a safe, welcoming place that the people of Barrie and the surrounding area need and deserve,” said Jill Tettmann, President & CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “Our vision for a new, modern YMCA facility in Barrie is coming to life, and today we are one step closer to opening its doors,” said Tettmann.”
Construction is expected to be completed by Fall 2027, bringing a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a vital community hub for Barrie and the surrounding areas.
“Today marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the Y in Simcoe County, with spaces that will provide vital services for youth in transition and a multicultural hub,” said Warden Basil Clarke. “This facility will become a cherished cornerstone of the community, fostering inclusion and positive futures.”
