York Regional Council approves$5 million grant for mental health community care hub

York Region has approved a $5 million one-time capital grant to the Canadian Mental Health Association, York Region-South Simcoe (CMHA-YRSS) to build a new Mental Health Community Care Hub in Newmarket.

“Struggles with mental well-being can go undiagnosed and may result in higher risk for unemployment, poverty, and homelessness,” said Newmarket Mayor Mark Taylor. “This much-needed resource will provide residents with greater access to dedicated mental health and addiction supports, helping to improve overall well-being and quality of life.”

The hub will be located at 17255 Yonge St., near Southlake Health and major regional transportation corridors.

“Through our consultations for the York Region Community Safety and Well-being Plan, we learned there is a lack of awareness about available mental health supports and where individuals can access them,” said Councillor Gino Rosati. “Through our partnership with CMHA-YRSS, we are confident that the Hub will be a vital resource to help meet the growing demand for these essential services.”

With approvals from the Ministry of Health and the Town of Newmarket already in place, CMHA-YRSS expects the hub will open in 2026.
