The Town of Bradford-West Gwillimbury has given conditional approval to an industrial development expected to include several rural industrial sites.

Trisan Construction’s new industrial development will be located northeast of Highway 9 and County Road 27 in both Bradford and the Town of New Tecumseth.

“I look forward to seeing this come forward,” said Mayor LeDuc. “We are talking about multiple jurisdictions when it comes to that that area, so it’s difficult but it is absolutely a perfect spot for commercial, industry in that area.

“It’s a good one for us.”

Official Plan and zoning-bylaw amendments needed for the 16.34-hectare site  bylaw enacting those amendments are expected to be approved Sept. 3.

According to a staff report, Trisan requested the properties be rezoned from agricultural and environmental protection to rural employment with exceptions (M3) and highway commercial with exceptions (C3), as part of their plans to create an industrial subdivision off Highway 9 near the existing Trisan contractors’ yard.

The plan is to build multiple blocks of rural industrial sites with outside storage alongside highway commercial sites that could include a gas station, drive-thru restaurant, building supply store or other retail uses.

Details of how the property will be serviced has not been decided and New Tecumseth council will review the proposal on Aug. 26

“We have very little frontage on Hwy. 9 and since it’s already a commercial area,” Councillor Ben Verkaik said at an Aug. 6 council meeting. “It’s a way to clean the whole area up and take advantage of it.”
