The City of Brampton is marking a major milestone in the redevelopment of Victoria Park Arena, as construction continues on the replacement of the historic community facility destroyed by fire nearly a decade ago.
Work on the site has reached a significant stage, with city officials highlighting steady progress toward the arena’s expected completion in fall 2027. The project represents the rebirth of a neighbourhood landmark that once served as a hub for junior hockey and lacrosse before its closure in May 2016 following a fire that levelled the original structure.
Concept designs were led by Architecture49, which has helped shape the modernized vision for the arena.
“This milestone marks an exciting step forward as we continue to rebuild and reimagine Victoria Park Arena for our growing city,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “This new facility will honour the legacy of the original arena while creating a modern, accessible space where residents can come together, stay active and celebrate community.”
Originally built in 1966, Victoria Park Arena was a fixture in Brampton’s recreational and sporting life for decades. Its redevelopment is now aimed at restoring that legacy in a modern form, with a facility designed for a wider range of sports and community uses.
The new arena will include a fully accessible hardwood dry-floor surface intended for box lacrosse, ball hockey and indoor field hockey. Plans also call for six team change rooms with showers and washrooms, a referee room, a coach and meeting space, and a large multi-purpose room to support programming and community events.
A second-storey mezzanine with seating for up to 500 spectators will overlook the playing surface, while surrounding site upgrades are expected to improve public access and landscaping in the area. The project also includes a permanent home for the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, which will be integrated into the redeveloped facility.
The redevelopment is one of several major recreation projects underway across the city. Brampton has more than 80 parks and recreation initiatives in various stages of construction or planning, according to its latest project tracking data.
