The Town of Collingwood has rejected a developer’s request for an extension to a subdivision plan that remains in the draft plan stage after 20 years.

Bridgewater developers have applied to the Ontario Land Tribunal for another extension on their draft plan of subdivision approval.

“The plan has expired and been renewed seven times over the last 20 years or so,” Collingwood Mayor Yvonne Hamlin said at a council meeting this week, prior to council’s vote to oppose the request for extension.

bridgewater collingwoodConsulate Developments is the developer behind Bridgewater on Georgian Bay development which was revised in 2018 to include a mix of 655 apartment, single detached dwellings, semi-detached dwellings, and back-to-back townhouse units.

The site is the largest parcel of undeveloped land (312 acres) located on the shores of Georgian Bay in Collingwood.

Development approvals have already been secured for 430 homes and a new comprehensive master plan has been created for up to 1,200 mid-rise condos in a pedestrian friendly “village” setting.

The architecturally themed neighbourhoods would be surrounded by a 250-acre Nature Preserve containing recreational trails, boardwalks, gazebos and fire pits strategically positioned along a 1.5 km waterfront. The project will also include a major clubhouse amenity with a  waterside restaurant, swimming pool, tennis courts and boat slips.

The Ontario Land Tribunal has reviewed the project several times in the past, and in 2023 ruled Collingwood couldn’t require affordable housing be included in the development plan which expired on Friday.
