Construction has begun on the Sir Robert Peel Centre, a major redevelopment project aimed at modernizing Peel Regional Police infrastructure and preparing for the region’s future growth.
Built in 1981, the Sir Robert Peel Centre has served as a cornerstone of policing in Peel for more than 40 years. The redevelopment reflects the evolving needs of a region projected to reach nearly two million residents in the coming years.
“The redevelopment of the Sir Robert Peel Centre is a reflection of our commitment to evolving with the needs of our community,” said Deputy Chief Lauren Jackson. “This facility will not only enhance how we deliver services, but also strengthen our ability to collaborate, innovate, and keep our growing region safe, supporting more efficient service delivery for both officers and the community for generations to come.”
The “future-ready” facility will centralize key operations, including a first-of-its-kind Detainee Processing Unit equipped with biometric monitoring and a Forensic Identification Services lab to support complex investigations.
The redevelopment is being managed by Greenlight General Contracting Inc., awarded the contract for construction management services. CES Group is providing Total Building Commissioning across all phases to ensure operational and performance standards are met. Architectural design is led by NORR Architects, with engineering and planning expertise provided by AECOM.
Peel Police services will remain uninterrupted throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in phases through 2033. The redevelopment will feature two multi-storey facilities and an above-ground parking garage at 7750 Hurontario St., maintaining uninterrupted police and administrative services during all stages.
Phase 1 of the redevelopment includes:
- 130,000 square feet over two storeys
- Specialized spaces for Forensic Identification Services, Detainee Processing, Quartermaster Stores, and Records Information Management
- Upgraded administrative spaces, site access, and secure parking
- Expected completion: Late 2028 to early 2029
Phase 2 will feature:
- 230,000 square feet across five storeys
- A new 22 Division and Corporate Development building, with additional secure parking
- Construction schedule: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., beginning in early 2029
- Expected completion: 2033
