Construction workers assist in arrest of armed man in Barrie

Ontario Construction News staff writer

Three construction workers intervened in an incident involving an armed man in Barrie, aiding police in preventing further danger.

While working at a site on Drury Lane, the workers observed a man, reportedly armed with a knife, entering a vehicle that was not his. Recognizing the potential threat, they approached the car’s owner, who confirmed the man had no right to be there.

The workers managed to keep the suspect inside the car until officers from the Barrie Police Service arrived. Their prompt actions contributed to the safe resolution of the situation.

The suspect, a 45-year-old man with no fixed address, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of assault with a weapon. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled for a video appearance in court.

Police commended the workers for their swift response, noting that their intervention likely helped prevent further criminal activity in the area.

None of the workers were harmed during the incident.
