In the recently approved Climate Change Action Plan (December 2019), the direction was provided to “transform Mississauga into a net-zero carbon city to become a leader in green initiatives by reducing greenhouse gas emissions” with specific reduction targets identified for 2030 and 2050. As MiWay’s fleet is one of the main contributors to the City’s emission inventory, MiWay is looking towards the future electrification of its bus fleet to support the City’s direction. However, to support an electric fleet, MiWay’s existing transit garage facilities will need to be reviewed, assessed and upgraded to ensure that the facilities can house, service/maintain and charge electric buses while allowing for the transition from its existing diesel and hybrid fleet to fully electric.
