Ontario Construction News
Ontario’s 39th Costco is under construction in Oakville as demolition crews tear down existing stores in the RioCan Centre to make way for a new building to open in 2027.
Dump trucks, bulldozers, and large excavators are on the site to clear buildings and dig out an area for more than 300 underground parking spaces that will serve a retail outlet featuring 15,660 square metres of floor shopping area.
More than 670 surface parking spaces, sixteen bicycle racks and a Costco gas station are planned for the development, with Costco to occupy roughly a quarter of the RioCan Centre including the parking lot and gas bar.
Costco Wholesale, meanwhile, opened its tenth Canadian Business Centre in early December. The 137,000 square-foot facility is a conversion of the original Costco Newmarket which recently relocated to a larger property in the town just north of Toronto.
The new East Gwillimbury Costco Business Centre has created 240 local jobs and is the fifth Costco Business Centre in Ontario, part of a Costco national expansion plan, Costco said in a statement.
Open to all Costco members, more than 70 per cent of the product offerings are unique to the Business Centre and targeted to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes.
