The ministry of labour is investigating after videos showing a construction worker dangling from a crane several storeys in the air at a Toronto worksite was shared on social media.

In one video posted to Reddit, another worker is heard telling the man to “hang on”.

The construction site is located at the corner of Front Street West and Simcoe Street in the downtown core.

In a statement, a spokesperson for PCL, the construction company in charge of the project, confirmed that an investigation has been launched.

“We can confirm that an incident took place at our site located at Front and Simcoe yesterday involving a rigger who got entangled with a tagline after hooking a load,” Liisa Morley, communications manager at PCL Constructors Canada Inc. told Ontario Construction News. “Fortunately, he was safely lowered to the work surface and not seriously injured. The safety of all workers and the community is our top priority.

“We are working with all appropriate authorities and the incident is currently under investigation.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was notified about the incident on Tuesday and sent an investigator to the site.
