A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist the family of Corey Phillips, a construction worker who was killed at a Barrie jobsite last week.

Phillips, 52, died on June 24 while working on jobsite on Dunlop Street in Barrie. He had worked in construction for about 35 years, entering the industry straight out of high school.

First responders were called to the site near Frances and Boys streets at around 2 p.m. after a workplace accident was reported. An investigation is ongoing, but according to Barrie 360, police have confirmed that one person was killed after a crane collapsed at a construction site.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development sent an inspector to the site.

North Steel, the man’s employer started the fundraising campaign and, as Sunday evening, more than $4,000 had been raised. The campaign reported the number had increased to more than $11,000 by today (June 30).

“May we all, in this tragic time, come together to help this family, share our memories we have had with Corey and give his family the love and support they need in this grieving time,” the organizer wrote on the fundraising page.
