The Innisfil Community Foundation, a local charitable organization that raises and manages funds to support community needs, has awarded $25,000 to Georgian College to establish a new entrance award supporting students enrolled in skilled trades programs.
The grant creates the ICF Building Strong Communities Entrance Award, a permanent endowment that will assist students from Innisfil pursuing education in the skilled trades. The foundation was welcomed to Georgian College’s Barrie campus this week to mark the announcement.
The investment builds on the foundation’s ongoing support for student success at Georgian College, following previous contributions to programs including nursing, counselling psychology and police foundations.
Foundation officials say the new endowment is aimed at reducing financial barriers for students while addressing workforce needs across the region.
“We’re proud to share that the Innisfil Community Foundation has made a $25,000 grant to Georgian College to establish a permanent endowment supporting skilled trades students from our community,” the foundation wrote on social media. “This endowment will create the ICF Building Strong Communities Entrance Award, helping remove financial barriers for Innisfil students pursuing careers in the trades – careers that are essential to building and maintaining our homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
“With a growing shortage of skilled tradespeople across our region, this endowment will help strengthen our local workforce, support economic growth, and invest in Innisfil’s long-term prosperity.”
Georgian College officials said the funding will help students build strong career pathways while contributing to more resilient communities across Simcoe County and beyond.
