The City of Mississauga is inviting Requests for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to redevelop the Living Arts Centre (LAC) into a multi-functional hub for the arts, culture, tourism, business and events.

Also, lands surrounding the LAC will be transformed into a modern and sustainable convention centre and hotel, designed to bring even more events for the arts, tourism and business sectors.

The request for expressions of interest is now open to organizations interested in partnering with the City to reimagine the LAC lands. This process will help the City identify the best potential uses for the site.

This development is expected to fill a gap in Mississauga’s downtown, offering a venue for world-class conferences and business opportunities, while providing a space for international, national, and local events, as well as cultural showcases.

“Mississauga’s downtown is growing rapidly, and it’s crucial we keep building spaces that match our momentum. I want to hear from you—our residents—about what matters most as we reimagine the Living Arts Centre and the lands around it,” said Mayor Carolyn Parrish. “This project is about creating a space that works for our community, supports local businesses and attracts the world to Mississauga.

“Together, we can build something that reflects our values and strengthens our city for generations to come.”

Located in the heart of Mississauga’s downtown core and near Toronto Pearson International Airport, the LAC is a hub for visitors from all over the world with a rapidly growing population and a strong business community. The City requires modern, versatile spaces to accommodate the demand for local, national and international events. The LAC has long been recognized as a cultural landmark housing performance theatres, an exhibition gallery, eight professional art studios and sophisticated meeting facilities.

Mississauga is home to Pearson International Airport and more than 100,000 businesses, 1,400 multinational firms, and 77 U.S. Fortune 500 and 66 Global Fortune 500 companies.

Information gathered during the RFEI process will provide the City with options on how to use the LAC and the surrounding lands for a hotel and convention/conference centre to support the City’s growth.

“This RFEI will address necessary changes to the Living Arts Centre lands that are important for making Mississauga an attractive destination for talent, business, tourism, and arts and culture,” said Christina Kakaflikas, Director, Invest Mississauga. “Adding a modern convention centre and hotel with versatile meeting space will enable Mississauga to host international and national conferences, help showcase our vibrant city to the world, and facilitate business opportunities and connections.”
