Mississauga’s Lakeshore East study focus of community meeting

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Mississauga is hosting a virtual community meeting to review preliminary recommendations for urban design and policy directions to manage growth along the Lakeshore East Corridor. The recommendations have considered the feedback received in public consultations conducted in February and May.

Presentations will be recorded and can be viewed following the sessions. Feedback can be provided on the project engagement site.

Register here to join the meeting on Thursday, June 10 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. or call 311 to receive meeting instructions and preliminary recommendations in advance.

The goal of the study is to review the planning policy framework that will guide future development along the corridor. Mississauga is conducting a review of built form, height and density along the Lakeshore Road East Corridor in the Lakeview area. The goal of the study is to refine the policy framework that will guide future growth and a compatible form of new development in the area.

The study covers the frontage properties along Lakeshore Road East between Seneca Avenue and Etobicoke Creek. The Lakeview Village Master Plan (former Ontario Power Generation site) is not part of this study. It is undergoing a separate planning application process.

The frontage properties on both sides of Lakeshore Road between Seneca Avenue and Etobicoke Creek are being considered as part of this study.

However, properties on the south side of Lakeshore Road between East Avenue and the Small Arms Building have been dealt with as part of the Inspiration Lakeview process and no changes to the Official Plan policies are being considered for these lands. However, any urban design polices recommended as part of the Lakeview Corridor Study could also apply to these properties.

Current applications will continue to be reviewed under the planning rules in place when the applications were submitted to the City.  Applications will continue under the current review process.
