The Town of Newmarket will support the development of 18 new transitional housing beds at Inn from the Cold’s latest project, with construction underway on a three-storey building that will provide a total of 44 beds for emergency and transitional housing once complete.

The facility will include on-site support services and shared programming for residents and is located near health clinics and public transportation. The building will also feature space for on-site services and programming, aiming to provide residents with supports needed to transition to stable housing.

“The Inn from the Cold’s housing hub, which will open later this year, is a great example of what we can achieve when all levels of government come together and partner with community agencies,” said Newmarket Mayor John Taylor. “As we continue to face a growing crisis, this emergency and transitional housing project stands as an example of collaboration and community support.”

Funding for the project comes from multiple sources, including $630,772 through the Canada–Ontario Community Housing Initiative, over $1 million from the federal Reaching Home program, $1.5 million through Ontario’s Homelessness Prevention Program, and additional support from the Regional Municipality of York.
