Ontario invests $1 million in Nick Smith Centre arena revitalization

ARNPRIOR — The Ontario government is investing $1 million in the Nick Smith Centre Arena Revitalization Project as part of its provincewide Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF).

Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault made the announcement at the Nick Smith Centre, where construction is underway on the $7-million redevelopment of the community’s primary recreation facility.

“On behalf of Premier Doug Ford and Minister Neil Lumsden, Ontario’s Minister of Sport, it is my privilege to announce that the Province of Ontario will be investing over $2 million through Ontario’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund across the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke,” Denault said. “I’m especially proud to make this announcement right here at the Nick Smith Centre with the Town of Arnprior receiving $1 million through this fund to support their Arena Revitalization Project.”

The CSRIF supports upgrades to local recreation facilities, with a focus on growing the economy and promoting active, healthy living.

“The Town of Arnprior is grateful for the province’s investment in recreation and well-being in our community,” said Mayor Lisa McGee. “The Nick Smith Centre has long served as the recreation hub for Arnprior and surrounding communities, playing a vital role in sports, recreation activities, events and a lifetime of memories.”

She said the revitalization project ensures the facility continues to support the needs of a growing municipality while serving as a key economic driver for the Ottawa Valley.

The revitalization project will include replacement of aging infrastructure, accessibility upgrades and the addition of new meeting and storage spaces. Arena pads and refrigeration piping will be replaced, and new arena boards, glass and netting will be installed. Upgrades also include new stands with improved accessibility, retrofits to heating systems for spectator comfort, rubber flooring, equitable storage space for user groups, and a climate-controlled mezzanine with viewing into both arenas.
