Ontario officials tour Ontario Place where EllisDon leads major infrastructure overhaul

Ontario Construction News staff writer

Ontario government officials visited construction workers and toured the worksite at Ontario Place last week.

EllisDon Civil Ltd. — a division of EllisDon selected by Infrastructure Ontario through an open procurement — is currently leading the site servicing and infrastructure renewal at Ontario Place. They are onsite carrying out excavation, replacement, and upgrades to key utilities including water, sewer, gas, and electrical systems, which were originally installed over 50 years ago.

Here’s what EllisDon Civil is working on at Ontario Place:

  • Replacing end-of-life underground utilities to meet modern building and safety standards
  • Repairing and stabilizing structural elements of heritage features like the Cinesphere and Pods (exterior work began in fall 2022)
  • Ongoing site-servicing renewal through 2025, which includes full decommissioning of outdated systems and integration of modern services
