Orangeville has been selected as the permanent home of the Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial, with the memorial expected to arrive in the community in late 2026.
Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones made the announcement Friday alongside Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, Orangeville Mayor Lisa Post, members of Dufferin-Caledon fire crews and community members.
The memorial will be located at Fendley Park at 11 Fendley Rd.
The project has a strong connection to Orangeville through the late Dan Little, a longtime Dufferin County resident and volunteer firefighter who served with Orangeville Fire Services for more than four decades. Little proposed the memorial nearly 40 years ago and led efforts to raise funds for the project.
“This memorial will have a new home and continue to mark the sacrifices firefighters make in communities across Ontario every single day protecting our lives and property,” Jones said. “Thank you to the Little family for bringing this memorial home to Orangeville.”
Orangeville Fire Chief John Snider said the community is honoured to become the memorial’s new home.
“Especially grateful” was how Snider described the community’s appreciation for Little’s role in developing the memorial.
The memorial will provide a lasting place to remember firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
“It is fitting that the Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial will have its permanent home in Orangeville, where Dan Little served as a volunteer firefighter for four decades and worked tirelessly to make this memorial a reality,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner.
The Little family has continued to support the memorial project, which will provide a place for firefighters’ families and communities from across Ontario to pay their respects.
The Ontario Firefighters’ Memorial is scheduled to arrive in Orangeville in late 2026.
