Prep work starts at site of future Scarborough Centre Station

Ontario Construction News staff writer

Construction work to extend the TTC’s Line 2 subway 7.8 kilometres farther into Scarborough continues this summer with the upcoming removal of the Progress Avenue bridge above McCowan Road near Scarborough Town Centre.

The bridge will be demolished during the Labour Day weekend from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

Scarborough Centre Station – one of three brand new stations along the Scarborough Subway Extension – will deliver modern and reliable rapid transit directly to the heart of Scarborough.

Once completed, more than 10,000 customers are expected to use the station at peak times.

The first step in building this future transit hub is the removal of the Progress Avenue bridge over McCowan Road.

Removing the Progress Avenue bridge will clear the area for excavation and construction of the underground station box, which will begin later in 2024.
