SMPS Ontario selects its 2021-2022 executive

The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Ontario Chapter has selected its 2021-22 officers, after the nomination process concluded with an election contest for two executive positions.

The association, with several chapters in the US and the Ontario chapter based in Toronto, represents marketing and business development specialists within the architecture, engineering and construction community.

Ian Chodikoff, communications director, SvN Architects + Planners, won the competition for Director, Education and Certification, while Allie Bell, proposal manager at A.W. Hooker Associates, won the election for Secretary.

Anthony Roppa, principal, vice-president business development, Aercoustics Engineering Ltd. and Ben Uppal, director, business development and marketing, Fox Contracting Ltd., did not face competition for their positions as Director of Membership and Treasurer, respectively.

Kendra deVries-Mulhern, marketing lead – Global Growth Markets, Golder, a member of WSP, will be the 2021-2022 president, while Gregory Devine, business development and marketing manager, McIntosh Perry, will be the president-elect and Russell Pollard, principal, Framework Leadership, will be the chapter’s Immediate Past President. The SMPS Ontario Director of Communication will be Celenia Serrano, Senior marketing specialist, Stantec.

Mark Buckshon founded the precursor business behind Ontario Construction News in 1989. Earlier, he worked as a journalist and sub-editor, including a stint on the Bulawayo Chronicle in 1979-80, during the transition from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe.  He has lived in Ottawa since 1981. While most publishers achieve their role through a sales/business development career, Mark developed his business skills after succeeding as a journalist, and he continues to enjoy actively writing, editing and contributing to the publication.
