Thunder Bay seeks public feedback on proposed updates to Urban Design Guidelines

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking public feedback on proposed updates to the Urban design guidelines, which were last updated 10 years ago.

The city says the current guidelines no longer reflect the best ways to create accessible, livable and workable areas, and that they do not include guidance on parking, accessibility, landscaping, lighting and stormwater management.

The proposed guidelines will be incorporated into reports to council in April 2024, and a public survey is open for comment online until March 15.

“Good urban design can help people feel happier and calmer,” said Jillian Fazio, acting senior planner with the city’s planning department.

“Well-designed sites maintain their appeal and make our city a better place to live.”
