Toronto to build Ramsden Park Community Recreation Centre

Ontario Construction News staff writer

The City of Toronto has announced plans to build a new community recreation centre at 1020 Yonge St. in Rosedale, replacing a former surface parking lot.

A design team is expected to be hired this spring and community engagement is planned to continue through summer 2026 before a detailed design is presented later in 2026. Construction is planned to start in early 2027 and be completed by summer 2030.

The new recreation centre will be built on the site of the Toronto Parking Authority’s Car Park 269, which was permanently closed in June 2023. The City of Toronto intends to transform this underutilized space into a multi-purpose community facility aimed at serving the growing local population.

The building will meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act accessibility standards and target net zero emissions design features.

Amenities will include:

  • A six-lane, 25-metre pool for competitive swimming and general use.
  • A leisure pool for recreational swimming and community programming.
  • A gymnasium with a running track for sports and fitness activities.
  • Multi-purpose spaces for meetings, programs, and events.

The design will integrate seamlessly with Ramsden Park, providing a modern, sustainable facility that will serve as a valuable community hub.
