The City of Vaughan has approved redevelopment of the Toromont Industries’ lands at the southwest corner of Jane Street and Highway 7, a project that will change the skyline of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre just north of Toronto.

Approval of the Toromont master plan clears the way for construction of 17 towers, including a 73-storey skyscraper at the entrance of the development, and more than 9,950 residential units across four development blocks spanning 10 hectares.

Designed by WZMH Architects and developed by Toromont, the project will Include about 784,561 square metres of residential space as well as office, hotel, retail, and 1.60 hectares of new parkland, the Toronto-based architecture firm said in a press release.

The project will be built in four phases, with the first phase adding more than 3,294 residential units, office space, and initial sections of the new park network in Vaughan’s city centre.

In addition to York and TTC transit connections, the plan envisions more than 8,000 bicycle parking spaces. The development proposal tabled in 2024 said residential units will include a mix of amenities as well as 4,549 parking spots and 61 accessible spots.

“We are delighted to have designed and help guide this project through to its final approval,” said WZMH principal Len Abelman. “We are excited to see the project move toward realization and contribute to Vaughan’s continued growth as a vibrant urban centre.”
