Wellington County engineer named OPWA president

The Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA)has named Wellington County engineer Don Kudo as its president for the 2022 term.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being on the OPWA Board of Directors since 2017, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as President of the Ontario Chapter for the upcoming year” Kudo said at the OPWA annual meeting.

“The organization does excellent work of connecting public works practitioners from across the province, and I’m looking forward to continuing to engage with these members and finding innovative ways to advocate for public works in our communities.”

The OPWA is the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) and the American Public Works Association (APWA) and is the largest Canadian Chapter in the APWA with approximately 600 members. The not-for-profit organization that works to connect the public works community and promote professional excellence and public awareness through education, advocacy, and the exchange of knowledge regarding public works in Ontario.

“Like many associations, OPWA has faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Kudo added, “I am confident we can continue to find ways to provide value to our members and the public works industry.”

Kudo is a professional engineer who has worked in the municipal engineering field for over 33 years. He has held the Wellington County Engineer position since 2017, and previously held various engineering roles at the City of Guelph and the Town of Halton Hills.
